The cruises set the pace for the village's summer. CTvisit's listing for Volsunga IV, which leaves from the Stony Creek town dock at 4 Indian Point Road, gives its season as "May to early-Oct." By the time this post goes up, the dock's busy months are over.
Between now and mid-December, the Legacy Theatre, the Church of Christ Congregational in Stony Creek and the Branford Land Trust keep scheduling events on the same Saturdays and Sundays. On four weekends in particular, you could fill a whole day without leaving the area between Thimble Islands Road and Red Hill Road. Here is each weekend in turn.
The Theater Takes Over From the Dock
In summer the cruises are the main draw on Thimble Islands Road. From late October on, the main draw is a few blocks inland at 128 Thimble Islands Road. That's the Legacy Theatre, and this fall it's hosting a full Long Wharf Theatre production.
Long Wharf Theatre lists Arthur Miller's The Price from October 30 through November 22, 2026, with a 7:00 p.m. curtain and tickets from $55. It is staged "In Partnership with Legacy Theatre" and directed by Ralph B. Peña. Here is how Long Wharf describes it:
"Arthur Miller's The Price is an achingly intimate exploration of two estranged brothers reuniting years after their father's death demands a reckoning with the question: what price do we pay in the present for the choices we made in the past?"
Long Wharf adds that Peña's production tells the story "from the perspective of an Asian American family."
The run lasts nearly four weeks. It opens on the same day as a downtown tradition and closes on the same weekend as the Land Trust's biggest walk of the fall. Those overlaps are what make the next two months worth planning.
The Legacy's own 2026 Sunday Broadway Concert Series wraps up its October dates before the play opens. Norm Lewis performs Sunday, October 25 at 2 p.m., and the theater's page already marks that show sold out.
October 30 Opens Two Things at Once
The first weekend starts on a Friday. Blackstone Memorial Library's events calendar lists its Annual Halloween Parade for Friday, October 30, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. That evening at 7 p.m., The Price opens at the Legacy. The two don't conflict, so a household can do the parade in the morning and opening night in the evening.
Halloween itself falls on Saturday, October 31, and the weekend keeps going in Indian Neck. The New England Brewing Co. taproom at 5 Indian Neck Ave. lists live music with Timmy Maia that night. The taproom's posted hours run until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and it's 21+ after 9 p.m. NEBCO also has two events earlier that week. Sister Funk plays Sunday, October 25, and the NEBCO Branford Beer Dinner is Monday, October 26.
If you're out on Saturday afternoon, the Stony Creek Museum at 84 Thimble Islands Road lists its 2026 hours as Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. Park on School Street behind the firehouse and follow the sidewalk to the front entrance. Weekend-only hours this late in the year can change, so check with the museum before you go.
November 7 Is the Fullest Saturday of the Fall
If you mark one date, make it this one. The theater, the church and the Land Trust each have something on Saturday, November 7. The Harvest Supper runs until 7:30 p.m. and the play starts at 7, so dinner and the theater overlap by half an hour.
- Forest Management Walk, Van Wie and Quarry Preserves. The Branford Land Trust's Summer 2026 newsletter describes it as "an educational walk in the Van Wie and Quarry Preserves with CT State Forester David Irwin."
- Stony Creek Museum, 1 to 4 p.m. It fits between a walk and dinner, if the posted weekend hours still apply.
- Harvest Supper, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Church of Christ Congregational is serving "a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings," and tickets are sold ahead of time.
- The Price, 7:00 p.m. It's in the middle of its Legacy run.
The newsletter doesn't give a start time for the forest walk. Watch the Branford Land Trust's site for details as the date gets closer.
Sunday, November 8 is quieter. The church hosts a free Community Concert with the Stony Creek Singers from 4 to 5 p.m. After a full Saturday, a free one-hour concert on Sunday afternoon is an easy way to finish the weekend.
November 21 and 22 Close the Fall Season
Two weeks later, the third weekend lines up the same way. The church holds its Holiday Fair on Saturday, November 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with themed gift baskets, baked goods, jewelry and holiday greenery. On Sunday, November 22, the Land Trust leads its Annual Van Wie Walk, and The Price ends its run the same day.
The Van Wie Walk is the Land Trust's yearly November hike. The newsletter describes "the extensive trails of the 100-acre preserve — fields, woodlands, streams, and granite outcrops," donated by two generations of the Van Wie family. The early-November forestry walk and this one cover the same land a little over two weeks apart. If you go to both, you'll see one stretch of woods twice in one fall, with the trees in a different state each time.
The trailhead sits on the inland side of the village. In its 2025 directions for the same walk, the Land Trust places it near 100 Red Hill Road, off Leetes Island Road. From I-95 Exit 56, go south on Leetes Island Road for 0.1 mile, turn left onto Red Hill Road, and park on the side of the road or at the pond pull-off. The Land Trust updated its trail maps page in September 2026. It links one combined map for the Van Wie, Hoadley Creek and Branford Quarry preserves, with parking and trailheads marked.
The Land Trust has a reason to celebrate this year. At the Supply Ponds fish ladder, it reported more than 11,000 herring so far in 2026, following 23,000 in 2025, as the ladder marked its 20th anniversary. The ladder was originally built with stone from the Stony Creek Quarry. The same granite runs through the Quarry Preserve that the November 7 walk visits.
December 12 Brings the Village Back Outside
The last weekend is the one where Stony Creek's streets fill up again. On Saturday, December 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., the church presents its outdoor Christmas Pageant. It stages seven Biblical Christmas scenes around the village, with luminaries lining the half-mile walk between the Stony Creek Museum and the town dock, live animals at the scenes, and the Stony Creek Fife and Drum to kick it off.
The Legacy's holiday show fits in earlier that day. 'Tis the Season Starring The Sarafinas is advertised for December 9 through 20, with performances at noon and 3 p.m. on both December 12 and 13. A 3 p.m. matinee lets out well before the 6 p.m. pageant.

- Thursday, Dec. 10: 2 and 7 p.m.

Blackstone Memorial Library is showing a Maria Barletta gallery exhibit through December 31. The next Land Trust walk on the calendar is the Annual First Day Walk on January 1, through the DeLeo and Pisgah preserves.
The Price, the Harvest Supper and the walks in Van Wie Woods are part of what it means to live in Stony Creek, and they come up when buyers ask what the village is like from November to May. If you're thinking about what your Stony Creek home could sell for, Jules G. Etes can give you a price based on local knowledge of the village, not just the summer numbers.
